I have had the privilege of photographing this family several times now over the years. And on this day, there was a brand new one-month-old face among them! What joy to watch families grow!
I’ve had so many clients ask me about clothing suggestions that I put together a few inspiration boards just for ideas. For family sessions, I usually tell my clients to pick out a few base colors (browns, cremes, grey’s, for example) and then add splashes of color to compliment (reds, ochre, different shades of blues), which could be in the form of a headband on one, a scarf on another, a sweater on dad, shoes on mom. Mix it up, make it fun!
Another suggestion is to choose 4-5 colors and work those throughout the entire wardrobe. You may know you want blues, browns, greys and oranges. Say we have a family of 5… mom, dad, sister and two brothers. One son could have on blue jeans and a brown shirt, another brown cord pants and a light blue shirt with a splash of something orange on it. Sister could have on a blue dress with grey leggings, mom could have on a pumpkin colored sweater with grey jeans, dad could have on blue jeans with a brown cord blazer…
Possibilities are endless. If you want everyone to wear the same color shirts and same color pants, that is completely fine. This is YOUR session! But don’t be afraid to mix it up and add some color! Color adds personality!
